Xp Bonaire Feature Story - ARTS & CRAFTS
Monique, owner of Nu Kua Ceramics Bonaire, has a variety of handmade pottery to offer. From mugs, bowls and plates to bird feeders, planters and urns. Our flamingos and fish are, of course, in her collections, but other beautiful decorative technics are also available.
Monique started working with clay early on when she worked as a creative therapist back in the Netherlands. While she was a passionate painter in those days, she joined a ceramics workshop and fell in love with the earthy, natural material. Working with clay teaches you many things. The necessary patience, sense of timing and a certain control are all very helpful in therapies, but also helped Monique herself grow as a person.
Monique, a 7 year resident on Bonaire, started her open air ceramics studio 3 years ago here on the island. You can find many of her beautiful items online, but in case you are looking for something very personal, you can sit down with her and work out your unique gift.
Demonstration - Saturday & Sunday 12 & 13 of December
Monique will demonstrate part of her work process at her pottery turntable on the weekend. It will be a great opportunity to understand and see what goes into the 3-week process to create one of those unique ceramic pieces of art and maybe you will also find another item to love among her showcased finished pieces.
