3rd Bonaire International Water polo Tournament

The Bonaire Barracudas swim and water polo teams are very busy these days!

Bonaire hosted the Curacao Orcas for a water polo tournament for player’s under 16 on the weekend of October 21st. Club Nautico and Mushi Mushi graciously hosted the event with a great location on the waterfront! There was space on the pier for the coaches and referees, while the fans had a great view from the stands along the shoreline. The competition ended in a tie with Bonaire winning 2 games and Curacao besting us in 2. Taking advantage of the setup, all of our other teams also competed against each other in a variety of games.

The club is growing rapidly with over 75 members. Several swimmers are at the Aruba Dolphins Invitational Swim Meet this weekend and a large group will go to Curacao in December. Training in the ocean is fine for the swimming, but all of the other competitors train in a pool where they are doing tons of starts and turns in each session. We extend our thanks to Ocean Front Villas who allow us the use of their pool, for a chance to practice starts and turns periodically while we do all of our training in the ocean without walls. Despite the odds, our swimmers work hard and are bringing home medals!

We look forward to November 16-18 where we will host the 3rd Bonaire International Water polo Tournament with teams from Aruba and Curacao for several competitions in water polo. This will be at the Town Pier. Swimming is a great sport for all ages and there are opportunities for everyone 7+ or A diploma through adults. Come check out a game it is really exciting!
