Restaurant Review - Eddy’s Restaurant Bonaire

XpBonaire IslandLife Feature Story

For our recent restaurant review, we decided to visit a long-standing establishment rather than try a new spot. Located at Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot 79 in Hato, between Sand Dollar and Buddy Dive, and directly opposite Bon Bida, Eddy’s Restaurant has been a staple in the local dining scene for years. The restaurant’s website promises a welcoming, family-run atmosphere, catering to families, couples, colleagues, friend groups, and even large diving parties. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Eddy’s delivers on this promise.

Despite it being a Monday evening, the spacious dining area was nearly full. The interior is generously laid out and understatedly elegant, striking a balance between comfort and style. The term “sober” might suggest something austere, but in this case, it works beautifully, giving the restaurant a clean and relaxed atmosphere. The only drawback was that the space was somewhat noisy, though this was less a reflection of the restaurant itself and more a testament to the lively diners enjoying their meals. With the back of the restaurant open to the breeze, the natural airflow kept the temperature pleasant throughout the evening.

From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome. We were promptly greeted and served tap water along with menus. The menu at Eddy’s is extensive, offering a wide range of options, making it unlikely that anyone will leave without finding something appealing. The restaurant leans toward an American-style menu with a strong Latin American influence, complemented by hints of Caribbean flavors.

Appetizers

For appetizers, we chose the Crab Croquetas and Patacon con Cameron. The crab croquettes arrived as six small balls skewered on a stick, accompanied by a curry remoulade and a small salad. The flavor was delicate yet rich, and the presentation charming. The Patacon was equally impressive—a small dish of mashed green plantain topped with shrimp, Carib-style salsa, and melted cheese. Both starters were a delightful introduction to the meal, perfectly balancing texture and taste.

Main Courses

For our main courses, we opted for the Quesadilla Mexicana and “The Favorite.” The latter lived up to its name: a perfectly cooked tenderloin accompanied by crispy bacon, fried yucca, and fresh vegetables. Diners can choose between Merlot demi-glace or pepper sauce. In our case, a kitchen mix-up resulted in both being served, which we did not mind at all. We also decided to keep things simple by ordering fries as a side. Both the meat and accompaniments were cooked to perfection, offering excellent flavor and texture, while the price-to-quality ratio remained impressive.

The Quesadilla Mexicana was another highlight. For those unfamiliar, quesadillas are to Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine what grilled cheese sandwiches are to American cuisine—a simple, cheesy delight made from corn or flour tortillas. Eddy’s version was filled with grilled chicken and complemented with cheese, producing a satisfying, flavorful bite. Paired with a mild salsa and guacamole, the dish felt authentic and comforting.

Dessert

Dessert at Eddy’s varies regularly, and on the night of our visit, we were offered Crème Brûlée or Panna Cotta with chocolate sauce and pecan nuts. Panna Cotta, an Italian dessert meaning “cooked cream,” is known for its creamy texture and subtle sweetness. This particular version leaned toward the sweet side, aligning more with Caribbean dessert preferences, though perhaps a little too sweet for our personal taste. Nevertheless, it was well-executed and beautifully presented, rounding out a memorable dining experience.

A few aspects make Eddy’s particularly appealing beyond just the food. The friendly and attentive service, ample parking, and spacious outdoor seating all contribute to a stress-free and enjoyable evening. The restaurant also caters to various dietary preferences, offering vegetarian options, and is known for its creative cocktails. Additionally, the atmosphere is lively but comfortable, making it suitable for both casual dining and special occasions.

In summary, Eddy’s Restaurant Bonaire offers a well-rounded dining experience where guests can enjoy flavorful, carefully prepared dishes in a welcoming and relaxed setting. The combination of Latin American, Caribbean, and American-inspired cuisine ensures that there is something for everyone. Whether you’re visiting as a local or a tourist, Eddy’s delivers excellent food, attentive service, and a friendly, family-run atmosphere—all at a very reasonable price.

For anyone seeking quality dining with a generous portion of charm, Eddy’s Bonaire is an outstanding choice. From the carefully prepared starters to the main courses and desserts, every element of the meal felt thoughtful and satisfying. The balance of flavors, portion sizes, and attention to detail demonstrates why this restaurant has remained a favorite for so many years.
