It is no wonder that we on Bonaire are so aware of the value and sensitivity of our nature. On such a small island, surrounded by the world's oceans, any negative impact is immediate, like coral bleaching, sargassum, algae pests and human pollution to name just a few.
In the heart of Kralendijk, you'll find MOANA Surf and Lifestyle Boutique. This surf shop opened in 2018, as an addition to Kiteboarding Bonaire. Moana represents the dushi island lifestyle, the laidback spirit and the deep love for the ocean.
Here you'll find bigger brands like Ripcurl, Brunotti, Vissla and Sisstrevolution. All brands selected for the shop have committed to a sustainable approach, just like the island of Bonaire where we all know how important it is to keep our oceans and planet healthy and clean.
House brand
Moana has their own Bonaire merchandise brand Island Vibes, like the last Rincon T-shirt. Part of the sales goes to local initiatives to grow a healthy community and materials selected for production are natural and sustainable as well.
Local Artist
You will find beautiful accessories made by island artists following the same approach of upcycling, recycling and sustainability.
Even the sun protection is selected for its approach of protecting the oceans. Sun Bum is vegan and reef friendly (Octinoxate & Oxybenzone Free).
New Owners
At the end of 2022, the successful business was sold to the new owners, Gyselle and Quenton.
Quenton, who was born on Curacao, went to the Netherlands to study business & information technology and worked there for various companies. When Quenton decided 9 years ago to come back to the islands, he decided to come to Bonaire.
A technical manager at TELBO, and father to a daughter, Quenton keeps it moving. He became acquaintances and good friends with the Visser family, owners of Karel’s Beach bar and many other projects, and organized events for the former Islander, now the Club Trocadero location.
Having a father on the island when growing up, Gyselle always envisioned herself living on Bonaire and made her dream come true in 2011, when she moved to the island. Later she married her teenage love and is now a mother of 3. Besides her full-time job as a mother, Gyselle also works in the family business, at Karel’s Beach bar and isome of the other projects.
Always eager to learn something new Gyselle and Quenton were excited to embark on a new adventure in the retail business.
Enthusiastic about the shop's concept, nothing has changed about the carefully selected sustainable brands available in the shop, maybe it has become even more of a priority.
