At the end of March, 2021, the construction work at Grand Windsock was completed. All of the 72 luxurious villas and apartments are now ready to welcome guests in the most comfortable way. Located just steps away from the Caribbean Sea, with a private beach club “The Beach”, a diving school “Wannadive @ Grand Windsock”, Grand Windsock Rental Cars, 24-hour concierge service and villas with their own private swimming pool, Grand Windsock Resort is a luxurious vacation experience.
Grand Opening Discount
To celebrate completion of the resort, Grand Windsock is offering a grand opening discount of 20% and for Sedula holders an additional discount to enjoy a “staycation”. Circumstances right now don’t allow for a celebratory opening, but General Manager Charles Vos hopes for swift positive changes and the possibility to make up for it shortly.
Luxury Living and Service
Currently Grand Windsock is the largest resort on the island. With 72 villas and spacious luxury apartments, the resort houses 400 beds. Grand Windsock consists of 42 villas, 26 with a private swimming pool and 30 apartments with garden or ocean view that sleep 4 to 6 people.
The apartments and villas are privately owned and exclusively managed, maintained and booked for vacation rentals by Grand Windsock Bonaire. The villas and apartments are equipped with a fully furnished kitchen, a large in and outside living room and multiple bathrooms.
The villas are especially suited to the situation with complete privacy and safety, fresh air, sun and 24-hour concierge services. To cruise around the island, Grand Windsock has their own fleet of rental cars ready at your villa or apartment. With full coverage insurance, you will have a carefree drive.
To ensure the safety and health of all the guests, Charles and his team have adjusted the check in and out procedures to keep contact to a minimum and any important updates will be available. There is also a grocery shopping service and the resort offers all Wellness possibilities or hairdresser appointments in the privacy of your own home as well as the 24-hour WhatsApp concierge service and the private beach club. The Beach is open to resort guests for great food and drinks.
Challenge
To open a new resort in times like these is a challenge. The hospitality industry on the island has been under pressure for one year since the announcement of the worldwide pandemic. The island’s economy is at a standstill and the constant changes and measures worldwide make it hard to adjust and create new opportunities to attract vacationers.
Hiring new staff and securing their monthly income was another big concern for Charles. With the constant changes in covid measures, it was nearly impossible to ensure a position to a new staff member and not risk them ending up with no income or governmental support.
Charles has worked in the hospitality industry for most of his life. The Canadian born Dutchman worked in Amsterdam as a hotel manager with Golden Tulip Hotels for 16 years before he decided he needed a change of scenery. While he pictured it to be Belgium, or maybe France, destiny decided it to be Bonaire.
Charles has been a resident of Bonaire for 10 years now and has continued to work mostly in the hospitality industry. Charles was General Manager of Sand Dollar Condominiums and Divi Flamingo Beach Resort previous to Grand Windsock Bonaire.
Putting in extra effort
Charles and his committed team made sure to give a helping hand wherever needed during the completion of the resort. Charles has a positive view of the future. With over 50% occupancy bookings for the coming months, they can only hope for positive developments concerning covid. Charles and his team have made sure to have everything in place to make it the best vacation experience for their guests.
What’s to come
In the near future, Grand Windsock Bonaire will open a second restaurant “The Poolbar @ Grand Windsock” in the large pool area where guests can enjoy breakfast or lunch and delicious cocktails.
The Beach, the resorts beach club, is ready to open their expansion and offer more space for beach lovers during the daytime and a beautiful spot for dinner or a drink in the evening.
