Press Release RCN
Recently there was a party at the Rincon-based Kolegio San Luis Bertran. The thoroughly renovated elementary school and day-care Hardin Tia Sus were festively opened. On that occasion the school also celebrated its 40 years anniversary.
The program for the official opening began with the cutting of the ribbons at the gates of the renovated school and day-care. Students sang for the audience between the different program components. The official part ended with the cutting and eating of a cake, to celebrate the school’s 40 years existence.
All this happened in the presence and with the cooperation of the commissioners Cecilia and Crown, Mrs. Silberie of RCN/OCW, priest Ivan of the RC Church in Rincon, the RC school board, representatives of both the Kolegio San Luis Bertran and other schools and the project organization of this renovation.
The Tia Sus day-care is now located where the nursery school used to be housed. This offers a great opportunity to introduce the IKC (Integral child center). IKC is a center that provides pre-school education and after-school care in addition to primary education from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, so for children aged 0 to 12 years. In addition to the classrooms and offices, the complex also includes playgrounds and a kitchen where meals can be cooked for the children. With this complex Rincón now has a school that meets today's standards and with room for new applications.
In June 2016, the first wall was symbolically demolished, in August 2017 the keys to the building were handed over to the former headmaster Mrs Jane Lo-A-Njoe. The renovation was carried out by the local contractor APA Construction NV, the design of the buildings is from Jacobs Architekten NV. The new playground of Tia Sus has been designed by Bodifeedesign.
The realization of the renovated school building is part of the educational housing plan for Bonaire, which is financed jointly by the Public Entity Bonaire and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). The renovation of the building component for Hardin Tia Sus was commissioned by the Public Entity and financed by a grant from the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations.
The RC School Board is very pleased with the result.
