Mexian food is an international favorite with its fresh ingredients that are nutritious and mostly healthy, if not for the body, then, for sure, for your soul. El Bigote (Mustache) is a hidden secret for your dining experience on Bonaire. Located away from the boulevard, you need to know how to find it to enjoy it.
The three owners, Okke, Harry and Derk, run El Bigote three days a week from Thursday through Saturday from 6 to 10 pm. The menu showcases authentic Mexican food, freshly prepared and ranging from under $10 to a maximum of $23.
Here is our choice and experience
We started out with a Mexican beer and a mojito cocktail to get into the mood. While choosing our food, we were served tortilla chips with a homemade guacamole.
Appetizers
We ordered the Jalapeno Shrimp and the Tostada Ceviche, a lemon, fresh catch of the day cocktail, as appetizers. Our favorite was the perfectly prepared Jalapeno shrimp.
Main course
We ordered Enchiladas, tortillas filled with chicken and prepared with a tomato or chili-white cheese sauce. We chose the delicious tomato sauce.
Our second choice was the smoked pulled pork burrito. Smoked pork is a traditional meal for holidays all over this region.
The main courses are served with different salsas such as sour cream and Pico de gailo. For the heat lover, ask for the delicious homemade hot sauce. With the salsas, you can add however much suits your personal taste.
We couldn’t decide on our favorite. We loved them both, the smoked pork flavor and the juicy and tender chicken paired with the salsas was a yummy and perfect combo.
El Bigote also serves authentic desserts like tres leches cake, a typical Mexican classic, as well as churros, a deep fried Mexican pastry.
