Once again, the seaside Gala Auction by the Bonaire Animal Shelter will take place on Sunday, the 9th of December at the Shores location.
In 2016, the new and improved edition of the Animal Shelter Auction took place. Approximately 250 tickets were sold and about 200 guests came to participate in the silent and live auctions. The event was a great success and the guests loved the festive atmosphere at such a gorgeous location.
This year’s event will again take place at this beautiful villa, overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Shores #26, with Christmas décor, free drinks, food and plenty of auction items.
Silent Auction
The event will start on Sunday, the 9th of December at 5:30 pm and will be kicked off by a silent auction with a variety of baskets to bid on, such as jewelry, beauty packages, dinners for two, house accessories and much more.
Live Auction
At around 7:30 pm, the grand live auction will take place with Auctioneer Deepak, owner of Best Cellars Bonaire and sponsor of the wines at the event. The live auction will have a great selection of items. Delfin’s has donated a wine, dine and “stay a day” package including day passes for the facilities. The catamaran, Mushi Mushi, has donated a cocktail trip for 6. There is artwork from different local artists, beginner windsurfing lessons, dive courses, night snorkeling and much more. You will find something for everyone. Check out the Animal Shelter website to see what all will be up for bid and even put in an early bid of your own!
Free drinks will be available during the event with wine donated by Best Cellars and Cadushy Distillery donating the vodka, rum and liquors. Food will also be complementary. The evening will conclude at the end of the live auction, around 9:30-10 pm.
This auction is a significant source for the Animal Shelter’s yearly budget. 100% of the proceeds will go back to the shelter. Every day, 1 new dog is delivered to the shelter and the Foundation is in urgent need of kennel expansion for both dog and cats. The auction proceeds will ensure these expansions.
The Team
To organize such a big event on Bonaire takes a lot of time and effort. Dabney Lassiter, Rhonda Lockhart and Brian Niessen are the team behind this great initiative.
Dabney came to the island 20 years ago and has been volunteering at the Shelter for the last 18 years. The Shelter had been organizing auctions frequently, but in 2016, Dabney had a vision for a new and improved version which was received with much enthusiasm. Rhonda became a resident in 2013 and met Dabney 2 ½ years ago. When Dabney explained the plans for the new auction she envisioned, Rhonda was excited and wanted to get involved. Brian is the savior for these two, the one who provides the technical backup and the art work.
Pakus Shop
Dabney and Rhonda both volunteer at the Pakus, the Animal Shelter’s second hand shop, open on Saturdays between 8 am – 5 pm at Kaminda Lib. Simon Bolivar, across from Brandaris Café. In case you have items that you would like to donate, the Shelter is grateful for any item donated. Just drop off your items at the Pakus on a Saturday. During high season, the Shelter also sells items on the cruise market. All the proceeds from the Pakus and cruise ship market will provide more animals with help and care.
Animal Shelter Bonaire
The Animal Shelter is a refuge for dogs and cats that can no longer be cared for by their owners, have been abandoned or were born in the wild. The shelter is non-profit, relying on donations to keep our four-legged friends safe, healthy and loved.
During the year, the Shelter has other events that provide the Foundation with financial support.
In case you are not able to take part in the auction, you can also donate items or money and be part of an animal loving island.
Auction Tickets
Even though it is a Gala Auction with festive décor, there is no dress code. Tickets to the auction will be available by email or phone and will be delivered to you.
