La Cantina Cerveceria

Most people on the island might have heard about the changes at La Cantina restaurant, a beautiful restaurant and bar located in the center of Kralendijk.

Rick and Kim, the previous owners who built an excellent reputation during their 10 years on the island, decided it was time to leave Bonaire and start a new chapter in their lives.

We are happy to hear that La Cantina will still be open and will continue to provide an excellent dining experience.

Jeroen, who has been working with the couple for 4 years, will continue the Brewery and Restaurant.

Jeroen came to the island 4 years ago and was introduced to Rick by a mutual friend. He decided within 2 weeks to leave the Netherlands to come to Bonaire for his hospitality internship. While he was mostly concerned with the back of the house at the At Sea restaurant, he and Rick also set up the Bonaire Blond beer concept.

Jeroen fell in love with the island the moment he stepped out of the plane and he will always remember how friendly and welcoming everyone was. After his internship, Jeroen knew that he wanted to return and so kept working on the Bonaire Blonde concept. After successfully completing his hospitality studies, he was soon back on Bonaire.

We all remember the introduction of Bonaire Blonde and the great videos we found on social media. The lager has local ingredients like dried Aloe Vera flowers and hints of lime. At the Brewery, home of Bonaire Blond, you will find the first and only real brewery on the Island. With a continuously changing hand crafted beer selection on draft, it is the perfect location to refresh after a warm Bonairean day. When the Brewery first opened, Jeroen became co-owner. He is a great host at the bar, introducing everyone to the various beers and their flavors thus realizing his teenage dream to create his own hospitality concept.

The next step forward

Jeroen will continue working with the full La Cantina staff and Roberto, who has been the sous chef at La Cantina and At Sea for many years, will take over running their excellent kitchen.

Jeroen is more than happy that the whole team wants to continue the adventure with him and he will still be able to rely on Rick’s great input whenever needed, as well as taking the existing concept to the next level.

Tapas or a la carte? Beer, cocktail or both?

Depending upon your mood, you can choose to have an easy bite and a refreshing beer in the casual atmosphere of the brewery; have a delicious selection of tapas at the tapas bar where you can watch the cooks preparing the food and pair it with a beer or wine selection or you can decide to sit in the restaurant and enjoy its excellent service and the a la carte menu. Of course, their love for fresh and local ingredients is unchanged and the favorite fresh fish market will continue. This new restaurant concept will run under the name La Cantina Cerveceria (Brewery).

Their passion to work with local, regional and fresh ingredients and their love for detail is what makes La Cantina Cervezeria unique. Both the mini pork tacos with pulled pork stewed in dark beer with caramelized onions and served with tomato salsa and crème fraiche or the classic ceviche of lime juice cured white fish cocktail served with corn, onion, sweet potato and guacamole are highly recommended Tapas choices.

From the a la carte menu we recommend the Brazilian pincho beef tenderloin with chimichurri sauce or choose the fresh caught fish that changes daily from the fresh fish market and combine it with your choice of sauce and fresh vegetables. Many other delicious creations await you and might open a new world of regional cuisine for you.

The Brewery will open its doors from Wednesday – Sunday 4 pm until midnight. The restaurant is open Wednesday – Sunday, 6 – 10 pm. Try out one of the unique beers, cocktails, wine or order your favorite and let the night take you where it will….
