Jans, the CATC manager of Bonaire and Curacao, is proud of the new office building and the many employees who have gone through so many changes with enthusiasm. Since 2010, many rules, regulations and laws have been changed or adjusted. As one of the leading offices on the island, an employee is required to know about those changes and advise in those matters.
Jans came to Bonaire 9 years ago. After working as a Financial Director for 20 years at a multinational in the Netherlands, she was ready for some change. Bonaire has been one of her favorites as a dive vacation destination, so much so that she and her husband decided to buy property and build a house for their retirement. But as many of us know, building a house from a distance is often not such a good idea. Being tired of their old surroundings and life style and with the building obstacles on Bonaire, she decided to apply for a job in Aruba, not believing that she would find a job in her field on Bonaire.
Sometimes things turn out differently and Jans found a job at an accounting office on Bonaire in September, 2008. After some difficulties in the beginning, due to owner changes, employees were taken over by CATC in 2008. Jans had now found her beloved challenge in reorganizing, eliminating backlog and managing the new CATC office on Bonaire. In 2011, Jans and her fellow accountant offices on Bonaire started an association to bundle their know-how and fight the new rules and regulations introduced to the BES islands (Bonaire, Statia and Saba). The islands had to go through many changes after they became a special municipality of the Netherlands and had to adjust to the new regulations that were not always compatible to the region and its circumstances.
Jans also finds it important to give employees chances to grow and develop. In her opinion, professional education possibilities are still too rare on Bonaire. CATC offers its employees the opportunity to further their studies in their field and trainees from the local school are welcome to learn about this profession.
