During the months Octoberand November of this year Statistics Netherlands (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek- CBS) will conduct a Labor force survey (Arbeidskrachtenonderzoek - AKO) 2016. Interviewers of the CBS will go to the randomly selected households to administer the questionnaire.
The AKO measures, amongst other things, the unemployment rate, how large the employed labor force is, and the education level of the population. The survey is held every two years. For this survey we selected 850 addresses on Bonaire, 470 on St. Eustatius and 540 on Saba.
One of the most important results of the AKO is the unemployment rate, i.e., the percentage of the labor force that is looking for a job. Other important results are the participation rate, the level of education and profession of the employed population.
Some results of the 2014 AKO are:
In 2014, 68.9 percent of the inhabitants of Bonaire aged between 15 and 75 was employed.
Over 900 people of the Caribbean Netherlands were unemployed. This was an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent for Bonaire.
Nearly 19 percent of the employed inhabitants of Bonaire was highly educated.
The results of the AKO will be published in the second quarter of 2017. Participation of the selected households is very important for the quality of the statistics. We therefore ask the coöperation of all selected households. With the participation of the households CBS will be able to make important and reliable statistics about the labor force of all three islands. Your privacy is absolutely guarenteed in all our surveys. This is an obligation of the CBS laid down in the law on Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek. CBS has taken all measures to protect your data.
